The ducks have been released!!! |
In order to do so, we had used rubber duckies and calculated how long it takes to travel 10 meters on the river. Since a river has 3 different parts, we collected our data on the three sections of the river Darent (A, B, C)
This is a small example of how much water there was in our boots.... |
Jasmine is looking at the ducks to make sure she stops the time when it reaches 10 meters. |
Once we were all wet, some of us had short wellies and the river was quite high, we walked back to the education center and learned about aquifer and the journey of the river Darent. Most of us were surprise to learn that it stops in Dartford and that where the city got its name from.
Kathryn and Holly are experimenting which rocks are aquifer. |
We did learn a lot of things, we learned that there was chalk in the river and that was an aquifer, meaning it absorbs water.
"It was a very fun school trip. The experiments were interesting to do. I got soaked!" - Millie
"We were in a room, it was like an olden days room. We looked at rocks with a microscopes, the rock that absorbed the most water was chalk. We tested the flow of the river Darent, I got water in my wellies. I learned that the deeper the river the fastest it goes" - Isabella
