Maths shtaM

This last week before Autumn half term has been a busy one in Year 4, and it has barely started!!!

On Monday, students in Miss Goulet's maths class have used Ipads in order to find symmetry in our school yard. It was hard at first, but then with practice we came up with very good pictures.
Louis's very good symmetrical picture
Where would be the line of symmetry?
Had you ever noticed this was symmetrical?

Brooke is taking her work seriously

This is my work... Isn't that cat lovely

Also on Monday, during the ICT lesson, we once again worked on office Word. This time, our task was to insert an image in the background of our text. This we all knew how, but Miss Goulet added a challenge that the image had to be faded in the background. This we struggled, but then took the time to be more familiar with Office Word and in the end we all did it.

Symmetrical task

Everyone in the class was so
focused on their task.
This week in maths, we have worked on Geometry.

It is an equilateral triangle, how many lines of
symmetry could it have??
We first learned about the properties of the polygons then learned about their angles.

Towards the end of the week, we have investigated lines of symmetry in a regular polygon.

We have come up with the result that : if you have a regular quadrilateral you will have four sides  as well as have four lines of symmetry.  Although, if you have an irregular polygon you won't have the same amount of sides and lines of symmetry because if you have a trapezium you have four sides, but only one line of symmetry.

In order to practice identifying lines of symmetry, we went in the ICT suite to play a game where we had to identify the lines of symmetry in order to unlock a safe. Afterwards, we have to complete shapes. It was really fun, if you click on the word game you will be able to access it.

Hope you go and play this game, it is very cool.

Office works!

Younes is trying to type with both hands.
Today in ICT, at first we checked our emails and deleted the ones that we had.
Then, we learned how to use or work out to use Office Word. Afterwards, we typed up the work we have been working on in class.
Imogen can type whilst looking at the screen.

The task in literacy was to write as if we were a friend of Varjak and we would advise him what to do. Here is an example of my work. I chose to write in red because the text is important and I want my audience to understand it is an emergency.

I order to have a good text, I have spelled checked my work. It is easy, Office Word shows you underlined in red the words that are misspelled.

Varjak's quest in the city

In Literacy,  we are learning about Varjak Paw.

This cat has to learn how to fight.

He always gets told off by his big muscly brother as well as by his father. Then, there's his mother saying "Darling wash your paws please".One of the Paw is called Jasmine, every single day she giggles and laughs. Varjak's brother is called Julius; you know he's one of those cats who flexes his muscles and has to talk about it every day and keeps on going on about it. He says "you know if you don't eat you won't grow muscles like me".

Euan tried to draw a city with lots of gloomy details.
Elder paw tells stories about Jalal, he tells them to Varjak.
Varjak listens to the adventurous stories he loves them!

One night Varjak came out to the garden through the cat flap.Elder paw was at the end of the garden,Varjak rushed to him. Then the door opened, the man with the two black cats came in the garden. The man has been in the house before, this Elder Paw mentioned it, but we don't know what he will do to Varjak..... He is the only who can save his family...

Lois wonders if she has shown the city like Varjak would see it.
As part of our literacy lesson, we have drawn what Varjak can see now that he is in the city looking for a "dog" to fight the man. After swapping drawings, we used expanded noun phrases to describe the drawing. It was a fun game to be able to find
